The ancient Greek playwright Euripides is quoted as saying “Experience, travel—these are an education in themselves.”
This year’s Top Achievers International Trip to Greece is the grandest of adventures…an experience and travel that is truly #lifegoals.
You’ll start in the birthplace of democracy, the modern Olympic Games, Plato, and Gyros – Athens. Ancient and modern at the same time, it is a place of wonder where the temples to the Gods of myth mingle with the white-washed beauty of modern Mediterranean architecture.
While in Athens, you’ll visit the Parthenon and the Acropolis.
Then it’s on to Mykonos, Greece’s most famous cosmopolitan island and a darling of the jet-set. This whitewashed paradise located in the heart of the Cyclades is blessed with sun-kissed beaches, high-end shopping and stylish cafes. While on Mykonos, you’ll visit Delos, a place of special significance in Greek mythology, replete with important stunning temples, archaeological sites and museums that will transport you to another age.
Our globe-trotting Senior Event Planner Chris Bartholomew is preparing some exciting things for those of you who qualify for the Top Achievers trip to Greece. Here are just a few of the things you’ll experience:*
Acropolis/Parthenon Tour: An archaeological wonder, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the world’s most instantly recognizable landmarks, the Acropolis is the star attraction of Athens. Perched on a jagged clifftop, the ruins overlook the modern city and date back to as early as 510 BC. Just as tourists, supplicants, emperors and invading armies have done for millennia, Shaklee Top Achievers will begin our approach at the base of the famous hill, passing by the ancient theaters of Dionysus, and the still-used Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Remember Yanni Live at the Acropolis? This is where it all went down. And now It’s your turn. We’ll climb the sacred hill via ancient marble steps and enter the temple complex through the colossal Propylaea, revealing the full splendor and timeless beauty of the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike, and views for days of Athens, the Aegean, and surrounding mountains of Attica.
The Olympic Experience: The winner of the first modern Olympic marathon, Spyridon Louis, took a final lap and crossed the finish line in the newly refurbished Panathenaic Stadium in just under 3 hours at 2:58:50. The stadium began as a simple racetrack in 330 BC, was rebuilt in marble with a capacity of 50,000 spectators by a Roman senator in 144 AD, abandoned in the 4thcentury, excavated and refurbished for the first modern Olympics in 1896 and featured again for the 2004 Summer Games in Athens. It’s the finishing point for the annual Athens Classic Marathon, and the last venue in Greece where the Olympic flame handover to the current host nation takes place. The 2019 Top Achievers Team will have the opportunity to participate in fun track and field activities right where Spyridon Luis made history back in 1896. Set a record, run around the track, or just have fun with one epic, Olympic Instagram photo-op on the medals podium.
Dinner beneath the Windmills in Mykonos: Sea Satin Market Restaurant It is located in the most beautiful area of Mykonos, just under The Windmills. Yes! THE windmills! For our first night in Mykonos, Shaklee Top Achievers will dine in the most sought-after locale on the island, directly under windmills, opposite the cosmopolitan bustle of Little Venice, with the Aegean lapping at our feet. The restaurant captures the inimitable allure of the Greek Islands, where rustic, almost austere, simplicity meets exquisite luxury. As the sun sinks below the horizon, we’ll feast on Aegean cuisine, toast the good life, and save a tiniest bit of room for the renowned loukoumades, served with a drizzle of local Greek honey and dollop of fresh-churned vanilla ice-cream.
